Family, Friends and Guests -
On August 9, 2005, our beloved Sonny succumbed to his long battle with prostate cancer. Sonny died in peace and comfort with his family by his bedside. He will be missed not only by those who knew him, but also by those who were touched through his passion, dedication and love for the state of West Virginia which was evident in his brilliant photography and writing as well as his memorable, often humorous storytelling.
As many of you know, this site was originally created months ago "in honor" of Sonny as he battled the disease. We were raising money together to benefit prostate cancer research as I trained for an extreme triathlon with Sonny as my motivation. My resolve is only stronger, the remainder of the site will remain unchanged and the focus for me remains the same - to raise awareness and contributions for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and finish my race in November. Only now it will be done "in memory" of Sonny.
The following quote, for me, sums up Sonny's wonderful life:
"To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!" - Emerson
Thank you, Sonny, for all that you have done for me and others. We love you.
